Depending on which community in the Kawarthas you’ve chosen to call home, you may find different types of stores for groceries, home, auto and other needs.
A good place to start is finding your local grocery store. In Ontario, we have a few large companies who own most of the grocery stores, but you may find privately owned ones as well.
A local staple is Kawartha Dairy for your milk, ice cream and egg nog. They have locations all over and are the world’s best ice cream makers, according to our humble local experts. You can get your regular chocolate and strawberry, but they also make Moose Tracks, Campfire S’mores, Muskoka Mocha, and so many more that you’ve got to try. Not everything is available in tubs, so take a trip to their store for a scoop (or 3).
In the summer, we live on corn, strawberries and other local goodies. This is corn country, and you’ll want to get corn on the cob at any roadside booth. It’s the freshest and tastiest, we swear!
Canadian Tire or Home Hardware are great go-to options for anything home-related.
Almost everything else you’ll need can be found by simply exploring. Go to your local community pubs to meet the locals, tell them you’re new and what you’re looking for. Canadians are a friendly bunch. We’ll be glad to help you!
